Back Pain
Back pain affects up to 80% of us at some point in our lives. Osteopathic practice is a safe and effective form of prevention, diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of health problems, including back pain. Often back pain resolves quickly by itself but if it persists for more than a few days an osteopath may be able to help.
Osteopaths will often use gentle hands-on techniques to help resolve back pain, together with exercise and advice designed to promote and maintain the best environment for a healthy back. Research evidence shows that these osteopathic treatments can have beneficial effects, especially for back pain
At Dr Pip Osteopath we want to understand your injuries fully, in order to address the main factors involved with low back pain. This is how we typically structure your consultations:
- Assess/examine – we want to work out what you can and can’t do.
- Educate and empower – we want you to know what’s going on, and what we can do about it.
- Alleviate pain and discomfort – we will advise and treat in a way to optimise your pain relief and increase body mobility.
- Restore function – absence of pain does not mean complete restoration of function. It is important to restore a body’s function through mobility, strength and stability, along side minimising pain.
- Build resilience – mentally and physically, so it doesn’t happen again. This could include stretches and exercise/lifestyle programs to keep you healthy.
