Osteopathy

In Australia, osteopaths are government registered allied health practitioners who complete university training in anatomy, physiology, pathology, general healthcare diagnosis, and osteopathic techniques.

Osteopathic techniques and approaches may vary but all Osteopaths focus on your neuro-musculoskeletal system – the bones, muscles, nerves and other tissues that support your body and control its movements.

Osteopaths provide musculoskeletal and nervous system assessments, manual therapy; clinical exercise programs. They may also examine your body’s movements, postural, positioning advice and ergonomic assessments.

Your osteopath may also offer ongoing support and educational advice about your lifestyle, stress management, diet or other factors that may influence your pain, injury or movement.

Osteopaths like Dr Pip use a series of different Osteopathic techniques including:

  • Musculoskeletal techniques (involving soft tissue massage, articulation of joints and gentle joint manipulation)
  • Cranial Osteopathy (a gentle technique used at any age from babies to adults. The technique involves gently applying pressure along the head and spine to release pressure. It’s based on the idea that manipulating the bones and tissues of your skull can help improve improve a variety of strain patterns that may lead to colic in babies and headaches in adults)
  • Visceral Osteopathy (Visceral Osteopaths also consider the movements and quality of internal organs (also called viscera: stomach, liver, intestines, lungs, etc..) to treat back, neck, shoulders, and legs problems)
